Skyrail unveils glass bottom gondolas
CABLEWAY riders will be treated to unsurpassed views of the rainforest and Barron Falls as Skyrail Rainforest Cableway upgrades several gondolas.
Eleven cabins with specially designed reinforced glass floors will join the fleet today.
"This adds a spectacular dimension to the Skyrail experience and undoubtedly has a huge 'wow' factor that will leave a lasting impression on our guests," Skyrail managing director Max Shepherd said.
The glass floors were made in France and shipped to Cairns before being fitted to existing gondolas by Skyrail's maintenance team and a technician from America.
The floor is designed with a 28mm triple layer of laminated tempered glass and polyvinyl butyral a type of resin.
"Our aim was to provide guests with the option of enhancing their Skyrail experience in an inexpensive yet exciting way," Mr Shepherd added.
"In addition to the main ticket price, passengers can upgrade to the Diamond View gondolas at a cost of $10 per adult and $5 for children one way."
