Fitzroy was named by Captain Cook in the 18th Century and formed an important part of an Aboriginal fruit and vegetable growing mission hundreds of years later.
The fringing reef just off the coast of the island is home to a rich variety of marine life, making it one of the best places to snorkel in Cairns. It’s also a great place to observe native birds and animals in the wild, including a diverse range of reptiles.
