Cairns Festival 17 August and 2 September 2012
The annual Cairns Festival showcases the best of Cairns’ vibrant cultural scene over 17 days of music, dance, art and entertainment at the end of winter.
This year, the festival will once again feature a packed program of events designed to entertain, inspire and challenge, with the spotlight focused on homegrown Cairns talent. During the festival you can discover the works of more than 300 local and national artists at the renowned Cairns Indigenous Arts Fair, catch an outdoor screening of Mad Max against the stunning backdrop of Cairns Esplanade and enjoy breathtaking acrobatics from the talented Cycas Circus troupe, and that’s just for starters!
The much loved Carnival on Collins will bring the festival to a spectacular close, and is expected to attract around 40,000 people to the beautiful botanic gardens district, not far from our Cairns holiday apartments, for a celebratory day of street entertainment, delicious food, arts and crafts and live music on September 2 (Father’s Day).
Many Cairns Festival events are free and non-ticketed – there’ no better excuse for a Cairns getaway this August! http://www.cairns.qld.gov.au/festival
