The beat of the drums will be sounding across the city as budding percussionists learn street rhythms to lead out the Cairns Festival grand parade.
At free drumming workshops, potential musicians will learn the craft to showcase their groove in the city’s biggest party.
They will be taught by Tara Tucker, of Drum Up: Big, who was a student of master drummer Mamady Keita.
"Drumming is a great medium as it is accessible and easily learned. It galvanises the energy of the people involved," Ms Tucker said.
Cairns Festival marks its 50th anniversary this year and the August 21 parade along the Esplanade will have 50 floats, fireworks and a free
concert.
And a series of free workshops from making noise to making giant puppets or dancing the Cha Cha Cha aim to turn spectators into
participants.
Cairns Festival is the region's largest cultural celebration and runs from August 19 to
September 4.
